Solomon Islands Wildlife Conservation ProjectCharapoana Island Resort, apart from its commercial activities catering for divers, adventure and exotic destination seekers, is also committed to "in-situ" conservation program of Solomon Islands of endangered and rare species of wildlife in order to protect and preserve the marine & terrestrial biodiversity. The New Georgia and especially Marovo Lagoon and its associated lagoons are amongst some of the most pristine natural tropical environments in the world. Conservation value of the flora and fauna of the Solomon Islands is of considerable international/global importance.
Solomon Islands has a greater diversity of animal species and higher level of endemism than any other Pacific Island nation.
The richness of Solomon Islands in biodiversity stems from centuries of geographic and ecological isolation.
The resulting evolutionary process led to the mergence of unique species and communities of plants and animals, many of which are adapted to only island groups and found nowhere else in the world.
The management of Charapoana Island Resort, directed by Jiri Holba, along with the local island communities of Buki-Buki, Karunohu and Inavo-Landoro are financing and sponsoring the establishment of "in-situ" wildlife sanctuary, where local protected flora and fauna will be displayed in ecologically designed environmental eco-systems. Selected endangered species of reptiles, birds and small mammals will be displayed. The projects main objective is to preserve and protect the gene pool and biodiversity of rare wildlife in Solomon Islands. Learning about local flora and fauna before critical habitats disappear, studying animal ecology and behavior, husbandry and maintenance of displayed collections will be of immeasurable educational value and importance to the local communities.
Part of the generated income from commercial activities in Charapoana Island Resort goes directly to this project and more funds and donations are needed to successfully carry on with such a project for the long term. We express our many thanks for your support and invite you to discover our little paradise. And for the future of our wildlife you can help with donations and/or be involved in our Special Adoption Programs for selected endemic and rare species to Solomon Islands.
Currently 96 species worldwide per day are becoming extinct...Extinction Is Forever. We need your help and together we can make a difference. |
