Invitation and Special OfferIn Harmony with NatureYou will discover our resort an authentic nature retreat appealing to divers, non-divers, nature lovers, adventurers, honeymooners, or a romantic getaway and ultimate escape for those who simply want to escape from crowded, hectic environments, not yet spoiled by crowds. We provide our guests with an experience that keeps them coming back to the end of the world and beginning of paradise.
After approx.45 minutes you will reach Charapoana Island Resort where you will be offered a welcome drink while sinking in to a hammock or sofa, relaxing and enjoying the stunning view of Marovo Lagoon and the amusing and cheerfull lorikeets feeding on nectar from nearby flowering trees.
Then be accommodated in a traditional guest house - Erovo in a beautiful Marovo Lagoon. Our main guest house contains 4 double and 2 single guest rooms and was designed in the traditional architecture style of Solomon Islanders. It was constructed by local craftsmen with mostly traditional tools and materials. For the complete authentic experience we still use kerosene lights and candles however we do have power backup to recharge your batteries or cool your drinks. Here, we would feel privileged to invite you and care for you in our tropical paradise, to show you and experience together our pristine nature, wildlife and heritage of which we are very protective and proud of. Delightful cuisine is prepared by Zusye, with her renowned magic touch and exotic tastes. Guests can enjoy a sampling of Thai, Indian, Indonesian, Chinese and European cuisine, along with tastes of local Melanesian traditional cooking, consisting of a healthy variety of fruits, vegetables and always fresh fish, crayfish and other healthy seafood products.
Charapoana Island will bring something new and unforgettable to your life. Meanwhile you will experience a traditional lifestyle of Solomon Islanders. Learn how to cook cassava pudding or Motu, local way of cooking on hot stones, covered with leaves. Listen to locals reciting past headhunting stories or just simply absorb our heritage.
One of them can be observing coconut crabs. These huge terrestrial crustaceans, normally living over 50 years can be observed nibbling on coconuts set out as bait. Perfect timing to observe these nocturnal creatures is after dinner. Walking only a few steps into the jungle on Charapoana Island crabs can be seen while you are surrounded by fireflies and luminous mushrooms.
Snorkeling and fishing around the islands is excellent, so is the traditional, full of fun dugout canoeing through the most picturesque lagoon and neighboring islands. The area was known for tribes of fierce cannibals. Past warriors frequently raided neighboring islands in search for trophies. In this case enemies heads because people believed the scull contained the life force of a person therefore acquire the victim's personal power. If the raid was successful, nguzu-nguzu, special carved figurehead usually from heavy black ebony wood was displayed on the bow of their canoe.
These days Solomon Islanders must rank among the worlds friendliest and gentlest people.
Traditional fishing Buna using vine and poisonous plants is another exciting adventure action consisting of the collection of special leaves and vines which are then crushed and mixed with sand. Equipped with this local, home made elixir you can choose suitable idyllic coral formations or bommies while snorkeling with local fish-hunters filling up coral hollows and crevices with the elixir. After a few moments the fish will be stunned making it an easy time for traditional local style fishing to supplement your kitchen with fresh seafood. After a long hard day in paradise, catching fish or observing crocodiles, or just relaxing and absorbing tropical atmosphere, one might try out our aromatic oil massage. For the more courageous visitors we can include a trip to Moluana Island. In the middle of the island is a brackish lagoon and natural nursery where small crocodiles are being hatched in large numbers, making it exciting to observe, especially during night-spotlighting.
Guided eco-tours - your nature walks for bird watching and elusive reptile search, your host and guide will be Jiri Holba a naturalist with a passion for wildlife and nature who would like to share with you our pristine area and with that in mind we hope visitors will develop a new appreciation and understanding for tropical rainforest, wildlife and as always beautiful Marovo Lagoon.
In a world of high technology, speedy development and destruction, the last remaining rainforests are disappearing fast. Vanishing cultures and tribes along with precious wildlife will be gone forever... Please come to feel and realize what most of us have lost through the "so called development process". We are still here, lost in time, in Marovo Lagoon where we strive to preserve our paradise for future generations to enjoy.
