Travel information, tips and recommendations:Getting there:The most convenient and direct connections are via Brisbane, Australia. Flights from Brisbane to Honiara (Capital of Solomon Islands) depart every Tuesday and Thursday, from Sydney to Honiara depart Saturday. Return flights to both Brisbane and Sydney are on the same days. From Europe one can fly direct from London-Singapore-Brisbane-Honiara. From Honiara it takes about 50 minutes by domestic flight to reach Seghe in Western Province. From Seghe airport you will be transferred by motorized canoe to Charapoana Island Resort. For further information contact your travel agent
Pack & Travel Light:Shorts, T-shirts, bathing suits, sunscreen lotion, sunglasses, fishing gear, hat, one warm sweatshirt or jacket for boat trips, raincoat. Please bring sturdy walking shoes (sneakers or running shoes) for rainforest walking. A pair of plastic sandals or reef shoes would also be useful and not forgetting cameras and plenty of extra films and batteries. Dive Equipment:If preferred, bring your own equipment (e.g. mask, fins, knife, gloves, reef shoes, dive computer), however tanks, weights, belts, regulator and BCD are provided in packages or can be rented for optional activities. Travel Insurance and DAN Insurance is mandatory and should cover all medical, loss of luggage, delays, including factors beyond your control such as medical problem, airline strikes, bad weather etc... Divers agree to refund "Resort" for any rental diving equipment lost or damaged whilst in their care. Entry & Visa Requirements:All visitors must posses a valid passport with at least 6 months before renewal, onward tickets and sufficient funds for their stay. For citizens of the USA, Britain, Commonwealth and E.E.C. and also for Czech Republic citizens, no need to apply for a visa. Tourist visa will be granted on arrival to Solomon Islands. Language:English, Pidgin English and local dialects.
Climate:Tropical conditions generally good year-round, warm temperatures moderated by sea breezes. May to September with slightly cooler conditions and frequent trade winds, November to February tends to be warmer, often with calm or little wind. The water temperatures averages around 28 degrees Celsius. Health:Current immunization against Hepatitis A & B and Tetanus are advised. A basic health kit should consist of band-aid, antibiotic powder/ointments, analgesics and sunscreen lotion and any other personal preferences. The current medical recommendation for malaria is combinations of Doxycycline & Chloroquine, or Maloprim & Doxycycline. Divers must not use Lariam (Mefloquine). Please, refer to your physician. Ensure you bring sufficient prescribed medical requirements for your stay.
